Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has stated that Frank Lampard is a team player, and the England man wants the best for the side even is he is on the bench.
The veteran midfielder has started the last two fixtures for The Blues on the sidelines, and was not used at all during the Stamford Bridge outfit’s 4-1 win over Swansea at the weekend.
The Portuguese coach’s decision to leave Lampard out of his starting line-up has sparked speculation that he is no longer an important player in the squad, but Villas-Boas disagrees.
“The players just want the team to perform and Frank is like that,” the former Porto trainer told reporters at a press conference.
“He’s a magnificent player and soon he’ll be back into the team, sooner than you expect,” he continued.
Chelsea take on Valencia on Wednesday in a tricky Champions League fixture, and it is thought that Lampard will be brought back into the starting XI.
