da blaze casino: As reported by The Daily Mail, doubt has been cast over Barrie McKay’s future at Rangers after he was told to train with the U20s Development Squad rather than the first team by manager Pedro Caixinha.
da imperador bet: McKay burst onto the scene at Ibrox five years ago when he made 41 appearances in the season that the Light Blues were promoted from the bottom tier of Scottish football.
Loans to Greenock Morton and Raith Rovers followed before he became integral to the side in 2015/16 when he was a key part of the Mark Warburton squad that saw them promoted into the top-flight.
However, having refused to sign a new contract in February, things haven’t been going great for the 22-year-old and it leaves Rangers with a massive choice to make this summer.
We reckon they should make the decision to sell him and here are THREE reasons why…
Last chance to get money for him
If Barrie McKay had a few more seasons left on his contract at Rangers then we doubt there would be any issue about his status at Ibrox, but the fact is that with just 12 months left on his deal at the club, Rangers need to prioritise business over getting another season out of the young winger.
The point of the youth academy at Auchenhowie is two-fold; one, to bring through players to the first team and two, to make sure the club realises the value of the investment put into players to re-invest in youth coming through.
This summer is Rangers’ last chance to get any value out of McKay and although undoubtedly talented on his day, the club can’t afford to leave money sitting on the table.
Having rejected the chance to extend his current deal at Ibrox, it’s clear he is comfortable with a future away from the club and he could well end up leaving Rangers on a free and that’d be a much worse situation.
He’s been inconsistent for ages now
While Rangers fans recognise that he is a very exciting and explosive winger on his day, they also recognise that for large parts of last season he wasn’t very good at all. Whether it was these off the field issues, his confidence or the fact the team around him wasn’t great, it’s clear that he hasn’t been reaching the potential that many fans thought he had.
If you want to become a Rangers great then it’s all about finding consistency and a will to win on a week-to-week basis and McKay hasn’t had that.
Now 22 years of age and with plenty of first team appearances behind him, his youth is no longer a great excuse when it comes to this consistency and to be frank, he may just not have the right attitude to be the player he threatens to become.
Caixinha’s growing tired of him
What the Rangers squad needs most of all next season is to all be pulling the same direction. The fact Pedro Caixinha sent McKay to train with the U20s Development Squad this week does not point to a player busting a gut trying to impress his new manager or gel with his new teammates.
If he isn’t showing the right attitude in training then he has little chance of shining in a match situation.
The task ahead of Rangers next season is big enough without disharmony distracting the rest of the squad or going against the work ethic Caixinha is trying to instil into his team.
A Barrie McKay motivated and at the top of his game would likely be a wonderful thing for Rangers fans to see but it’s increasingly looking like his heart isn’t in it and that’s perhaps reason enough to send him packing.
