da apostebet: Manchester United are being approached by a Qatari-based group over the potential acquisition of the Premier League giants.
What’s the latest?
da roleta: It was reported in the latter stages of last year that the Glazer family had put the club up for sale and there is believed to be a deadline for any offers by the middle of the month.
However, there is a belief the American owners are looking for an offer in the region of £6bn in order to part ways with the club.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, reporter Kaveh Solhekol believes the group will lodge a bid for the club next week with other parties showing an interest.
But the Sky Sports reporter did caveat at this update by suggesting the private investors linked to the Qatar Royal Family do not hold a similar valuation to what the Glazers are looking for:
(0:50) “Now, although the investors are interested in Manchester United, my understanding is that they will not overpay for the club.
“Of course, it’s been well reported that the Glazer family who owns Manchester United are looking for a sale price of around £6bn. I don’t think these Qatari investors would be willing to pay anywhere near that kind of figure.”
Lowball offer?
It does appear the Glazers have put a huge asking price on the club which they have now been involved in since 2003 and eventually took over for a fee in the region of £800m.
However, it will remain to be seen whether this is a valuation they are determined to acquire for the club or whether they would be willing to negotiate down to a lower figure.
The potential concern for some United fans will be the suggestion that this Qatari-based offer is likely to come well below what the Glazers are looking for.
And the issue that the investors may now endure is their well-reported links to the financial powerhouse which is the state of Qatar.
There were reports last year that Tottenham Hotspur’s owners rejected an offer in the region of £3bn to take over the club which could suggest the Glazers’ valuation of United may not be too far off.
If Tottenham’s owners are looking for more than £3bn, then surely the Glazers would be looking for upwards of £4bn given the commercial power of United as a brand.
It seems as if more will surface over the coming days but it will certainly be interesting to see whether both parties could look to alter their stance to make a deal happen.
