da doce: Newcastle are closing in on Swansea defender Neil Taylor as they look to take advantage of a clause in his contract which could allow their defender to walk away from the Liberty Stadium for a fee as minimal as just £1 Million.
da brwin: The 22-year-old Wales international made 26 league starts as the Welsh club clinched promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs. Due to this buy-out clause Newcastle appear to have lined the 22-year-old up, placing him right at the top of their list as a replacement for Jose Enrique as they struggle to keep hold of the Spanish fullback.
“We have received a proposal from Newcastle regarding Neil. But the proposal has not been accepted or rejected at this stage,” said the Swansea chairman, Huw Jenkins.
“We have received a number of inquiries from different clubs for Neil’s services and, like all bids we receive for any of our players, we will be talking it over with him when he returns from a break next week.
“Neil is a player we brought to the club this season from the Conference with Wrexham with a view to him progressing and developing with us over a number of years. The last thing on our mind was to sell anyone over the summer.”
Taylor joined Swansea from Wrexham on a three-year contract for a tribunal-fixed fee of £150,000 plus 10% of any future transfer profit at the end of the 2009-2010 season.. Taylor went on to earn his first senior Wales cap under John Toshack in a friendly in Croatia in May 2010, highlighting his rise through the footballing ranks.
He was a key figure in Swansea’s promotion-winning campaign, but missed the play-off final triumph against Reading through suspension after being sent off in the first minute of the semi-final first leg against Nottingham Forest.
