Noel Whelan has become one of Patrick Bamford’s latest critics, slamming the striker for his performance last weekend on Football Insider.
What’s he said?
Bamford started the season in bright form by notching a goal against Bristol City but his lack of composure shone through against Nottingham Forest.
Leeds came away from the match with a 1-1 draw but they could easily have won if the striker put away one of his chances.
He had six shots on goal, three of which were completely off target. It was a frustrating afternoon for the 25-year-old, who as a result, was slated by Whelan.
Speaking to Football Insider, he was damning of the forward, saying:
“It’s crucial moments in times where in front of goal it’s a lack of concentration, the timing of the volley in the second half. Six, seven yards out, you’ve got to be hitting the back of the net, you’ve just got to.
“He’s now costing us points.”
Blame Bamford
This is now a tricky situation for Bamford who could be at risk of a serious loss of confidence.
His first term at Elland Road rarely hit the heights we saw from him at Middlesbrough as he missed 22 matches through injury and only bagged nine strikes.
Yet, it was a season which was overshadowed by a lack of discipline and a poor attitude.
He was banned for deceiving the officials against Aston Villa whilst he then also dived against Derby in the playoffs.
Those two incidents rather sum up the nature of Bamford who has found life tricky since making the switch to Yorkshire.
The arrival of Eddie Nketiah will provide him with competition and it may take someone like that for him to finally sort himself out.
After all, if he continues to lead the line and misses as many chances as he did last weekend then it could put the team in huge bother.
The Whites sold Kemar Roofe this summer and without his 15 goals, they have lost a large degree of their firepower.
