Sunderland are confident of bringing in a new central defender before the January window slams shut.
That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, and as to be expected, a number of Black Cats supporters have been reacting to the news on social media.
The club look set to re-sign striker Jermain Defoe until the end of the season after he left Rangers, and they may not be done there.
According to O’Rourke, Sunderland are ‘confident of bringing in a new central defender before the 11pm deadline’. The journalist didn’t name-check any specific targets, but despite having no senior manager following Lee Johnson’s dismissal, the club are still active in the transfer market.
Sunderland fans react
One name who has been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light is Cardiff City’s Aden Flint. Here’s what these Black Cats supporters had to say in reply to O’Rourke’s post, with more than one Sunderland fan hoping that Flint will be the centre-back heading north over the coming hours.
“Aden Flint would be sensational. Didn’t think we’d be after another central defender tbh”
