Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca is set to return to training this week after meeting an injury specialist.
What’s the latest on West Ham’s Scamacca and his injury?
The Italian striker has been absent for the Hammers’ last three Premier League matches, as well as one FA Cup game, thanks to a problem with his knee.
There had been some talk that he was in line to make a return for the 1-1 draw against Chelsea this weekend but that was premature as he failed to make the squad.
However, in a positive update for David Moyes and co, it seems as though a trip to Rome has helped Scamacca who is now set to return to training and should consequently be available again soon.
While talking about it on an update shared to The West Ham Way Patreon, Ex revealed: “In better news, the club hope that, having met with a specialist in Rome this week, Gianluca Scamacca will be able to return to training this week to give West Ham the option of three different forwards – when was the last time that happened?!”
What does the Scamacca injury news mean for West Ham?
This isn’t the first time this season Scamacca has been absent for a few games with fitness struggles. Indeed, beyond this recent spell, he has been absent from four match-day squads in the league this season due to injury.
His recent issues have meant that for a period Moyes only had Michail Antonio to pick from up front with new signing Danny Ings also out with a knee injury.
However, that issue wasn’t as bad as feared and the former Aston Villa man played against Chelsea from the bench after missing the FA Cup win over Derby.
And now, if Scamacca gets a good week of training under his belt, all three forwards could be available for West Ham and Moyes when they take on Tottenham Hotspur away from home this Sunday in the Premier League.
