Frustrated defender Kaspars Gorkss says Reading only have themselves to blame after Newcastle striker Demba Ba’s controversial late equaliser denied them a priceless win.
Senegal striker Ba admitted he deflected the ball into the Royals net with his arm as Newcastle claimed a 2-2 draw at the Madejski Stadium, but the goal stood to prevent the newly-promoted Royals from earning their first win of the Premier League season.
However, Gorkss
believes his side could have defended better for both Newcastle goals. The Latvian told Sky Sports:
“Ba said himself and apologised to our keeper that he handled the ball – but that’s football. Fair play to him but if the ref doesn’t see it then it doesn’t count. It is doubly frustrating. But we still could have played a little better for both goals anyway.” He added: “We need to be more ruthless and grind the result out.”
